Getting a second opinion
If you have already been given a diagnosis of cancer or need to make important decisions about treatment, you may feel that you want the reassurance of a second opinion.
The best person to provide a second opinion is any specialist consultant who deals specifically with the type of cancer that you have. Ideally you should speak to your GP or specialist in the first instance as they will know what types of treatment are appropriate for you.
However, there are so many different cancer treatments and the medical field is changing daily, so you may feel that you want more information or options to help you to decide.
We can arrange for an appointment with a specialist through one of our private HCA hospitals in London, although you will need a referral from your GP.
Please be aware that you will be required to pay for the cost of your appointment (approximately £250) and any diagnostic tests or treatments that are recommended to you.
If you have been told by your doctor or a specialist that you do not have cancer, but you are still concerned, then you should talk to your GP again and ask them to refer you for a private consultation.
We do not recommend or encourage referrals of healthy individuals with no symptoms or history of cancer.
However, we do provide various screening programmes, such as breast and prostate screens, for those who are concerned about this. GP referrals are not essential but we will ask for the name of a GP so that we can send any results to them as well.
