Services > Palliative Care
A palliative care service is available to all cancer patients at a level that is appropriate to their disease progression and includes:
- Monitoring symptoms and providing advice about active symptom control of pain
- Control of nausea/vomiting
- Control of constipation/diarrhoea
- Advice about breathlessness and tiredness
- Advice about the availability of hospice and community support
- Psychological and emotional support throughout your cancer treatment
- Terminal care and support for those with end-stage disease
Our aim is to provide support and reassurance to inpatients, day patients and their families in a relaxed and calming manner.
Our team consists of a clinical nurse specialist with the support of a named consultant in palliative medicine. Each team liaises with the multidisciplinary team (including among others pharmacists, physiotherapists, dietitians, psychologists, occupational therapists and complimentary therapists) to provide a clinically sound and holistic approach.
An interpreting service is available for those patients who require it.
